SMART Query

Can anyone tell me why FreeNas is telling me this drive has failed smart tests and needs replacing?

Basically I added two older drives to my Freenas box and set them as a mirrored pair for use as a downloads location, they are WD Reds and have been on the shelf for about 6 months.

Freenas is indicating both drives are bad which seems a little unlikely as they were pulled from a working raid 5 setup.

Looking at the data I cant see anything that stands out and the smart tests come back fine?

I have copied data to the disks and performance is as expected?

Power on hours perhaps? Nothing to worry about it looks like, just a friendly reminder that they're well used!

try running smartctl -x against the drive, it should be more informative.

Its a odd one, this is the warning

"smartd[3051]: Device: /dev/ada1, FAILED SMART self-check. BACK UP DATA NOW!"

I mean for what I want to use them for I am happy to hammer them until they eventually die, its just for downloads so wont have anything critical on there, I would just like to know why it thinks the drives are faulty as the tests seem to pass fine.

I logged into my freenas box to compare but oddly my slog (ZIL) device (an older SSD) appears to have died

...Even with my slog / ZIL back (dodgy connection it would seem) I don't see anything that stands out as being different between your SMART stats and mine other that the raw value of your spin up time - mine's ~670 (HGST Deskstar NAS drives - 7200 RPM), though that's suspiciously quick to be honest (and - if it's real - it's probably not great if I had a load of them powering up at the same time).

What hardware are you running? No other signs of failure?

My freenas drives are up to 31072 LifeTime hours and no SAMRT issues.
Try running smartctl -x against your drives for more diagnostic information.
