    Question Abit NF8 HELP!!

Hi everyone, ive just built a pc with a Abit NF8 motherboard, Athlon 64 3000 and 1 gig ram. Now the problem im experiencing is that the bios seems to be showing the processor running at a rediculous temperature, about 60-70 degrees, but I have a temperature sensor which shows only 30 degrees, i understand this could be inaccurate but also if the CPU is running at say 68 degrees then surely the case inside would be hot,but is only showing about 15-20 degrees. this has led me to believe its the bios giving an incorrect reading, ive updated the bios with no change...

Anyone else having this problem at all and if so how if at all have you fixed this problem?

    any help is appreciated

    Is the heatsink mounted correctly?

TBH if the computer is stable then you don't really have a problem. Even if the processor was at 68 degrees (which according to your sensor it is not) it wouldn't do it any harm.

Have a search on the net for Newcastles showing high/incorrect temps - you will find that it isn't just ABIT

Yeah, its been mounted correctly, infact i re-mounted it to make sure, and it didnt make a blind bit of difference!

Its wierd because the exhaust fan at this very moment is blowing out ice cold air, and the cpu temp is still saying 54 degrees?????? (the pc has only been on for about 45 mins

I had this once, the cooler had a step on the bottom & this step was catching (minutely on the socket. Solved it by mounting the heatsink the other way (rotating 180deg). Also too much thermal compound can be a bad thing.

    Thumbs down

    Hello guys.

I have just the same problem with my ABIT card.

So what I wanna recommend for all ABIT card owners (especially NF8) is to look at this thread: http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?threadid=72496

Well to summarize it for those who do not wanna read it, it is a bug or something coming with ABIT NF8, which ABIT gotta fix themselves, and come up with a BIOS upgrade or something. I have mailed them and awaiting an answer right now.

Perhaps this will clear up some confusion

As I said before it isn't just ABIT & it certainly isn't just the NF8.
There is something weird with how AMD64s report their temps & boards display them - my DFI thinks that my 3700+ runs 5C cooler than my system
