    Dead p4 system help

Trying to fix a friends pc and it wont POST - no screen, no bleeps, but power is on and all cables are good.
Its 3.5yrs old, and made by cybermax.

Tryed reseating everything (cpu included), swapped ram and gfx card. I havent got a spare p4 or mobo to test them with but the rest seems to work. PSU is good.

Internal speaker is built into mobo but it doesnt give any bleep codes.

    Tryed resetting cmos jumper aswell..

    The pc is:

    MSI 6507 (intel 875 nb i think)
    P4 1.8 cpu
256mb ddr ram - dontknwospeed but tryed others that would work if that was the problem..
It has GF2 gfx (agp), but Ive tryed an old banshee, s3 virge (both pci) and yet to try a gf4ti4400.

Not sure what else I can do to find the cause without having a space mobo or cpu to test with.. any ideas?

    Thanks
    Mark

    Bios death?

Have you tried powering it up without (one of) CPU, RAM, GFX? If the BIOS isn't dead then it ought to at least beep an error code without the GFX in (and probably the others too).

Take out the BIOS battery and let it drain for a bit... Worth a go - I've had some mobos not boot when the battery was dead but they will boot (with default settings) with the battery out.

Take the mobo out of the case in case (no pun intended) it's shorting out.

Tryed without ram, not gfx or cpu though..

Cpu was a pita, I took it out to check for overheating, forgetting it has a heatspreader. The cpu came out with the HS with the lever down because of the crappy black TIM pad. In the end I had to freeze the TIM to get it to twist off. A few pins got bent but I straightned them,It shouldstillwork fine though..

Just tryed your suggestions. Nope, doesnt bleep at all, in any combination.... never heard the speaker bleep before so that might not work anyway... A port80 card would be REALLY usefull

Without battery still dont bleep, cba to take to mobo out yet. I thinkill take it to a local shop hopefully they will test it for free....

The shop wanted £23.50 to test it.. which I suppse is fair.. but compleatly not worth it as Im already 95% sure that its the mobo..

Well only one thing has gone. Just a case of finding out which and replacing it...
I think its the mobo.. does anyone have a spare and able to test mine? or know where to get replacement.. or know how to get this working?

I'd try a newer graphics card before paying money out.

I tryed 4 known-to-be working gfx cards, so I doubt that would help...

Can someone give me advise as to which board to get? I see a lot of cheap nasty pc chips boards on ebuyer.. should I?

Have you tried replacing the battery with a new one?

Maybe PSU or borked capacitors on the mobo.

What features does the PC need? Good chipset? Socket 478? SATA?

Would recommend you stick with Intel chipsets - 865 or 875.
