Random Restarts as Windows Loads

Turned my pc off this morning to fit a new CPU cooler and said to myself "i bet it wont turn back on"

Sure enough, i was right, the computer is fine right up to the point it has to start windows, then it just restarts. I've run 2 memtests, hard drive test on my master drive, unplugged everything and put it back together but it still has the same problem.

So i tried to reinstall windows, only to find out that when it loads all the files and it saying "starting windows" it restarted. So i tried on another hard drive, with all the other drives unplugged and it happened again.

What do you think? put the hdd in my bro's PC, take the data off then format from inside windows on his PC? or do you know a trick that will save me?

I would recheck that you have the cpu and cooler seated properly, and that the fan is plugged in and working as it's the only thing you have changed I would start there 1st

As curly said check what you've changed first, check temps if you havent already as if the CPU Cooler isn't making good contact the pc could be overheating and rebooting automatically.

Its not temps, its running below 35 degrees. As soon as it gets to the windows loading screen (the splash screen thing with the moving bar) it restarts.

Well I take it you've checked all the cables? (I know its simple but I though I would check)

Have you checked the CPU for damage? Unlikely but if the only thing you changed was the CPU cooler.

Try changing the cooler back to how it was? Again unlikely but its worth a try.

make sure nothing is overclocked and your bios are at default values.

Make sure that the ram is seated, worth taking out and refitting

Right, i was getting an eoor when trying to install windows:

cant find \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe
Error code 7

Well i looked round the net, and the general consensus is that its a ram problem, so i changed mine, still nothing. In fact, now it wont even boot :'(

Nope, quick update though, my PSU just exploded

Edit: luckily only the motherboard block and GFX card were plugged into it, not sure what the damamge is....yet

The gfx card and ram are ok, just the CPU and mobo that need testing now. Least that takes my fixing estimate down by £300

Edit: mobo definatly gone , cpu in testing
