how 'safe' would this be?

this could be a very silly question but my mates pc has a trojan on it and he claims he do anything due to it making the cpu sit at 100% all the time (its an old p3 450mhz aswell) i told him he should still be able to open things, just it will take ages but he says it just crashes, would it be safe to put his hdd into my system as a slave drive and scan the bugger, or would the trojan immediatly infect my system aswell, he said that norton was detecting it, but only as trojan horse so i couldnt look up individiual cures and, as per usual norton 'couldnt do anything about it'

what OS is it running ?

it might be worth burnign AVG + the latest update onto disk and scannign it that way ?

try to end the trojan process ( if you know it )

ell, im on xp pro sp2 and hes on win2000 pro

hmm.. not a bad idea, but if he cant run anything without the system crashing im not sure if we'd be in luck...

i think he said he could end it but it just pops straight back up, im yet to look at the system myself though...

try booting up in safemode

if your that worried get nortons NAV and boot from the nav CD and scan

You could download and burn the boot disk from http://ubcd4win.com/ which has a number of free anti virus progs which would clean the virus

cpu being at 100% does not neccessarily means he has a trojan.

Its a possibility though, it will not hurt to scan for one anyway.

well, i never got to look at the pc myself, just from what he told me on the phone, either way its sorted now though as his dad was able to run a system scan, when he told me "i cant do anything"
