A8N Dual memory problem - Fixed

    Hi,

I purchase an A8N Sli Standard mobo, with 2x512 Patriot 3200 XBLK TCCD ram, 3200 Winchester CPU.

For the first hour I was getting no display, after changing the memory around it finally posted with the nifty A8N motherboard picture on the bios screen.

The problem I have now is I have been unable to get the memory to run in dual channel mode, Slot A1 and B1 it says in the manual. The memory runs ok in my other computer with both sticks installed, but refuses to run on this motherboard in a pair. If I put just 1 512mb stick in slot B1 it boots up ok.

I've reset the bios clock (when I was getting no display), but this is driving me crazy. The manual says that the motherboard does not support double sided x16 memory chips, is this what the patriot XBLK chips are?, and if so how come 1 stick seems to work ok...

Any help you can offer would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

    James

    further info

now it seems to do just 1 long beep if I use slot a1, and 1 beep followed by 2 beeps if I use any of the other 3.

I have corsair xms memory stick, corsair value stick from my old pc, and these 2x512 patriot sticks.

Memory still works fine in my old pc, could it be the graphics card?, although system has booted into bios twice so far since I setup pc.

Finally fixed it, turns out this motherboard seems very sensitive with memory. I had to leave memory in slots I wanted, remove bios battery and reseat it, then take out graphics card and power on pc. Then turn pc off, put graphics card back in and hey presto both 2 x 512 ram sticks show in bios.

I'd like to thank this guy who suggested this in another thread, unfortunately I have lost the link to the web page.

Anyhow if you have problems with no display on boot, try this.
