Shutting down- maybe iTune related

Just got a ipod mini and when using iTunes the computer (laptop) always randomly shuts down and just switches off totally. I havent even been able to import a single album it happened so persistantly. I've scanned for viruses, ad-ware, spyware and also downloaded the new iTunes but it is still happening.
Although I have had random shut downs before it is nothing to this kind of reguliarity and it is now only happening when iTunes is used. Anyone had this problem or now how to solve it?
