Chronicals Of Riddick

I just got The Chronicals Of Riddick though the post. I install it, and all goes fine. When I try to play however, I get problems. There are 2 sort of scenes before the main menu comes up. On both of these, the sound is very jumpy (like a CD skipping), and it just repeats it over a over until I press a key.

Basically, the main problem (even in game) is this jumpy sound.

I did install whilst other programs were open, but I've never had a problem with this before, so I'm asking here before I try a re-install.

As far as I know, my sound driver is updated, but I will try and do an update now and see what happens.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated .

OK, I downloaded some audio drivers, but now when I connect to IRC, the "beeps" are sorts of fuzzier. I might see if I can go back to have it was.

After changing the sound drivers back how they were, I've now re-installed the game. The problem is the same however.

I found this. Seems someone's having the same problem as me. But 2 people said RAM on the graphics card DOES matter a lot. I didn't think it mattered so much (TBH, I think they're wrong!), the game IS supposed to run on my system OK isn't it?

Have you tried removing all the drivers for the soundcard and using the Windows drivers. I used to have this type of problem when I first got my SB Live 5.1 and found that the Windows XP driver solved all the sound related problems.

Other than that you could possibly try changing you're display driver to an older one

1. Wouldn't windows drivers be WORSE than the other ones because they're not specifically designed for the hardware?

2. How would going to an older version help and where can I find old versions?

There may be a driver clash between the sound driver and VGA driver possibly.

Another idea that has just popped into my bonce is moving the soundcard to a different slot on the motherboard and reinstalling the drivers.

At the time I used the XP driver with my SB card due to sound being really choppy in most games, this is on a personal level however, just found the XP driver done the job better than the official creative driver at the time. Now I use the official driver, think it may have been my motherboard at the time.

Just doing a brainstorming session to try and help out to see if we can work out what is going on.

I don't use a soundcard - onboard sound for me. Also, I'm pretty sure that when I built my machine, and before I installed drivers, I got no sound at all, so are you sure the windows drivers work?

Have you tried updating you're boards bios at all ? All I can think of at the min off the top of my head, check out the MSI site for patches and updates on the sound side of things also

EDIT - I just checked, I have the latest bios anyway.

So, suggestions still much needed, keep 'em coming .

dunno if this helps or not, i used to get the probs ur having when i used to use the onboard sound. So, i bought a seperate soundcard and all of the problems vanished

Yeah, well the thing is I'd rather do it without spending any money. It's also the graphics that are stuttering slightly too.
