stuttering sound and weird HWmonitor readings

started getting some weird stuttering and audio buzz/fart crap-outs last night (A bit like you get when it BSODs mid-game, but in normal use. ) First started when a website crashed, but then extended to anything and everything, online or off the HDD music files via media player. So far so good this evening but a bit unnerving. Anyone got any idea what to check for?

Fired up HWmonitor this evening and straight away notice this crazy temp - but I think that's not uncommon for HWmonitor. Anyone know if that's safe to ignore?

Monitor temps do weird things. If any part of your system had hit 400+ I'm pretty sure you'd have a nice puddle of solder in your case and some more serious problems than the odd audio glitch

As to the audio, the first thing I'd do would be to check if any driver updates have been automatically installed recently - may sound odd but I once got paid for a support call-out where the problem was literally that Windows Update had installed a new audio driver and it turned out to be buggy. Quick driver roll back plus a "do not update this driver automatically ever again" and it was sorted. Beyond that I think there are just so many things that might be up it's hard to know where to start....

Ever since the new Windows 10 update, its screwed over my onboard audio which now randomly cuts out. I remember when I first upgraded to Win10 it did the same, and it then went away after an update. Now it has returned. Its kind of annoying now as I have to use my DAC and headphone amp.

Check for high latency DPC with something like http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon and it'll highlight any drivers which are causing the stuttering - which might be hardware related but it gives you a pointer.

on win7 - so no auto-updates SFAIK. Heading to bed now to nurse my disappointment at Japan's gutting loss but will check out the latency stuff tomorrow.

The one I had to deal with was back in the XP days! I believe most versions of Windows have been capable of installing driver updates automatically, although yours may be set up so it doesn't. Probably worth checking though.

Re: stuttering sound and weird HWmonitor readings

Have had loads of problems with my Creative card, voices sounding crackly, made things unwatchable, had to pause whatever I was watching and then start it again. Never found the cause of the problem. Have recently reinstalled Windows due to a motherboard change so will see if its any better now
