Computer shutting down Because of heat?

Hey guys,

Well heres the thing. The computer is fine for all business purposes, but when I play world of warcraft after aout 3 hours the computer totally shuts down, its like if you yanked the power plug out. This does not happen however if i remove the case side door. I think that is has to do with heat but there are no warning or notices on the computer. If i dont open my case the computer will keep crashing about every half hour. This has been happening for a while now. Any suggestions?

Computer info:

Coolermaster ATC 110 case
-all fans work

Nividia 5900 Ultra 256
-BFG tech. (has large working fan)

3G P4
-Coolermaster fan+heatsink

1G ram

Is that 3ghz P4 standard, overclocked? What PSU have you got? I'm no expert, but if its not that great, you could have stability probs, as both CPU/GFX are quite power hungry.

Have you tried using a utility to monitor your CPU temps? You could have a prob if your HSF is not seated properly. Also check in your BIOS regarding any auto-shutdown features. My guess is your case is running hot, and there is a thermal trip or something that COULD be set too conservatively.

is it a recent thing or has it always happened to your pc with that configuration? have you read the 'clean pc' thread? might be an idea also.

there is no overclocking and this has never happend in the past. I used to play doom 3 and the battle field games a lot and this never happened.

Well if it stops when you remove the side door then defiantly sounds to be heat related, whats the air circulation like inside your case? Try and see if you can poke the wires and cabels into receses to give better airflow. Just after it shuts down does anything inside feel hot to the touch?

As said, if taking the side off helps, then it's probably heat. What PSU do you have?
