    Urgent- Windows Crashing.

Whenever I play a game my computer would crash. It was overheating, so I bought a new CPU Fan and temp's down. But now it just crashes randomly for no reason, usually during games. I've reformatted, updates drivers, and done all I could think of. I'm thinking it's my CPU and I need to order a new one but I'm not sure.. Can anyone help me? This is really getting annoying.

Run Memtest, if it finds errors then its the ram.
It sounds like it is the ram. What kinda temps were you running the cpu at before?
:edit: Could also be the PSU. What PSU are you using? And could you tell us your full spec?Would help us alot.

I'm running on a Northgate Windows XP, Intel pentium 4 2.50ghz, 512 MB of RAM, with a radeon 9200 Video card. That's all I know how to check up on anyway (Not that great with computer knowledge).. And the temp averaged from 80C-90C while playing games.

Do you mean CPU temp was reporting 80-90C? Thats really quite high, you say you bought some more fans, how many and wat size have you got running?

I got one more fan to replace the old one, and it's as large as my old one was.. large enough to cover the heatsink and CPU and keep it cool. Yes it was reporting 80-90C. Now it's down to 30C but I still have crashes.

Do the crashes occur after random periods or do they start occuring more the longer you play for? If you've got your temps down it does sound like is suggested above and your meory may be at fault, it'd be worth running memtest for a bit and seeing if it reports back errors or not

Or it could be that the CPU has become damaged from the overheating. If Memtest doesn't give any clues (I think Memtest will show errors if the CPU is damaged, even if the RAM is fine in some cases), then you might want to try Prime95 to check for general system stability.

The problem is, I can't run Memtest86 because I don't have enough room on my burnable CD's and my computer doesn't have anywhere to put floppy discs into, because it doesn't support floppy discs.

Ok, I downloaded prime95. Now what do I do? I let it sit there and test everything right?
