    Cannot create a DVD

I've got a strange problem in that I cannot create a DVD using Nero 6. I have an ISO file and it appears to write the DVD okay but the verify fails at around 70%. That's on my LG GSA-4120B writer. I then bought a second writer, an LG GSA-4163B and I get the same problem writing a DVD. I then had a second DVD image in the usual TS Video and TS Audio directories. I tried writing that and it also failed to verify around 70% with read errors.

Now here's the strange thing: I can create a DVD using an ISO image onto a DVD-RW disc. But any attempt at writing to +R or -R discs fails to verify and it's alway around the 70% mark. This happens on both writers. So far i've scrapped around 25 discs trying to burn a single DVD!

The discs are a mixture of EProformance and DataWrite Grey Label (Ritek dye) discs. I've not tried any other brands yet. I've also upgraded the firmware on the GSA-4120B to the latest version. The GSA-4163B is already at the latest firmware version.

    Any ideas?

Try burning the discs with CloneDVD I would say, you can burn from the TS folders with it or if you have an ISO it will also burn that.

Agent, how do you do that? If I use Nero Infotool and select the ASPI tab it shows as System ASPI not installed. However, there is a pull-down box that lets me select 'Nero SPI' and it shows this to be correctly installed with the following information:

    WNASPI32.DLL, 2.0.1.74, 164112 bytes, October 26, 2004

Is this enough to have ASPI installed even though Nero Infotool tells me that Windows ASPI is not installed?

I have made some progress in the meantime. I re-installed the VIA 4-in-1 drivers off the motherboard CD (these contain the IDE drivers amongst other things). I then tried a new brand of DVD-R discs and got two DVD's burnt with no errors so it might be down to the brands I was using.

Question Have you tried DVD Decrypter?

Do you have DVD Decrypter? Download the latest version and use that to burn your .iso image.
This program is the best for ripping DVD and writing .iso images to disc..IMO...
Never had a problem with this program writing .iso files...

For ISO's I've been using Alex Feinman's ISO recorder with no problems. Not sure if it does DVD's as well.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I updated my Nero just now with a recent update (6.6.0.8) and things are a lot more stable now. Just burnt another ISO. I'm not sure if it was changing the brand of DVD-R discs or updating Nero that appeared to fix the problem but things are looking okay now. It's just as well that DVD-R's are so cheap now as i've toasted 25 of them already!

I already use DVDShrink but will try DVD Decrypter. DVDShrink is pretty good as it has options to improve the image quality during the rip.

You can't change the quality of the rip, you can only change the quality of the encoding with DVDShrink
Yes, DVDShrink is a good program , but the DVD Decrypter that's packaged with it sux. I always use the latest stand-a-lone of DVD Decrypter, then use DVDShrink to size it up to fit on a single DVD.

Glad you got it all worked out
