    Spoofing email address

I thought there was an option in Outlook to spoof your email address.

I have a genuine business reason to spoof an email address, but cant seem to work out how.

    Any clues anyone?

Call me stupid, but by spoofing an email address, do you sort of mean making fake ones?

If so, I don't think OE can do this. Why would you want/need to anyway?

At a guess probably to make a normal joebloggs@fsnet.co.uk into support@businessxyz.com perhaps?

    thats not spoofing thats forwarding.

If forwarding is whats meant....great. I'd be itnerested in hearing a business reason to spoof email addresses.

God, you are a suspicious lot.

We have a consultant that spends one day a week with us and the rest of the time at home. He has a business email address with us which he uses when here. All his received mail is forwarded to his "private" freeserve account. However when he is at home and needs to send email through his freeserve account we want it to show that it is from his business address.

I just wanted to avoid having to set-up VPN on his private PC. Spoofing would have been much the simpler solution particularly as he is a complete technophobe!

Clingy - he could try and play with the "reply address" field in outlook express.

that way even though the mail will come from his FS account , the reply will be directed back to the corporate address.

    there are plenty.

when I mail a client I don't want replys directed to my personal address , so I send out as a different account ( which happens to be a distribution group to the rest of my team )

on a side note: I'm getting a little tired of the level of suspicion levelled at technical queries on the boards. If you suspect that someone is asking for help on something that is illegal then you have a number of options.

    - DON'T REPLY TO IT
    - REPORT THE THREAD

note that "sarcastic response" was not one of the options above.

    thank you for listening.

Thanks MD Found that and it works a treat. But it just would look more professional with his business email addy rather than "johnsmith73@freeserv.co.uk".

Thanks Atomic, but the smtp email server is located here and I didnt want to go through the bother of setting him up on a VPN (through a ISP dial up connection).

Just a side note : Freeserve capture everything on port 25, so no matter which SMTP server you specify, it will always get routed through freeserves servers.

Good point MD, not even thought about it, probably because of the security settings we have, but I'm sure I can sort that. BTW we are so tight we dont use exchange as its too expensive .... lol.

Looks like this will work, although I have not tested it yet. A better solution, for remote workers permanently working from home, than VPN which we use for our laptop peeps who are in and out.

At least this way I wont become an honourary member of the spammers guild
