HDD problems

i have 2 hard drives in my shuttle sn45g, seagate barracuda 160gb and 80gb. Currently windows is on the 80gb drive, and my music is on the 160gb drive. one of the hard drives get up to 48 degrees the other 45 degrees when the comps under load because theyre so cramped together.

Is there a way i can transfer everything from the 80 gb drive to the 160gb drive without reinstalling windows? It'd mean i can remove the 80gb drive and use it elsewhere, plus would save the hassle of redoing windows (which i really HATE doing) Im guessing it'd mean partitioning the 160gb drive but i really dont want to lose all my music etc.

any way to do this?

Hmm, without formatting the 160Gb I dont know how you'd do it (usually you'd image the 80Gb then unload the image onto the 160Gb) ... unless something like Partition Manager has got cleaver since I last used it

how about creating a new partition using partition magic on the 160gb then installing windows on that? should be albe to do that without wiping anything if you have the space and i remember correctly.

can i get a free tiral of partition magic that'll do it? dont have the cash to buy anything atm. would making an image of the 80gb drive and putting it on the parttion made work? cos i dont wanna have to setup my themes, icons, etc again

If take am image and put it on your new partition it should work

Shrink the partition on the 80 disk as small as poss. Create a partition on the 160 the same as, or bigger than the one you've just resized. Then use Acronis Migrate Easy or Norton Ghost to copy it accross.
Have to say I've only ever used Migrate Easy, but never had a prob.

No need to resize the original if you're using Ghost; it will resize as it copies. Just delete any rubbish first.
