xpc zen + 300 gb drive detected as 120 gb?!?

I just installed a 300 gb maxtor diamondmax 10 drive into a brand-new xpc zen (st62k). the bios detects it as a 300 gb drive (set to autodetect), but the windows xp installer, for some reason, thinks its only 120 gb. what am i missing?

windows XP can only recognise the first 120GB on a drive, you can either go and put it in another machine, NTFS format the drive and then stick it in the Zen and do a clean install or you can split the 300GB drive up and have the first 120GB as your O/S and then once windows is installed you can go into computer management in XP and allocated the remaining 160 odd GB to a new partition volume.

Or get SP2 - then it'll register the whole drive.
