SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 HD Windows 7 Incompatible?!
Good day!
I just bought a new SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 Enterprise HD and installed it in my Windows 7 Pro 64bit desktop PC, M/B Asus P5B-E, RAM DDR-2 8GB 667MHZ, Intel Quad Core Q9500 2.83GHZ.
The drive is recognized in the Disk management as 2 partitions 2048GB & 9128GB. The 2048GB partition I was able to create a simple volume and format it in NTFS just fine (F:). But the 9128GB partition is unallocated and does not allow me to create a new volume, format or merge it with the other part! The options remain grey! Is there something I'm doing wrong, is the HD defective or is it incompatible with Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit?!
Any help to solve this will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Re: SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 HD Windows 7 Incompatible?!
I suspect the disk is set to a MBR disk and not GPT
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...nto-a-gpt-disk
https://www.howtogeek.com/193669/wha...oning-a-drive/
"Windows can only boot from GPT on UEFI-based computers running 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and corresponding server versions. All versions of Windows 10, 8, 7, and Vista can read GPT drives and use them for data—they just can’t boot from them without UEFI."

Thank you dear Sir! That was it! I converted the HD to GPT and that fixed it!

also be aware you need the advanced format HDD hotfix kb982018 for it to work properly.

The HD seems to be working fine so far?! What is this HDD hotfix update exactly?! Do I really need to install it? I have bad experiences with all these "fixes" and updates!
Re: SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 HD Windows 7 Incompatible?!
yes you do. It should be automatically applied via windows update for systems that it detects need it, and in the optional, but recommended list for everyone else, but it is worth installing. And no, it doesn't cause any problems, can be uninstalled etc etc. It's a proper kb update in that respect:

you can download it from catalogue, windows update, or as a standalone from their website. Just make sure you download v3 and not one of the old ones.
