    new motherboard installation,

    im going to be installing my new motherboard soon, and i need to no should i format my hard drive first. I dont no as im going from a asus a7n8x deluxe to a dfi infinity nf2 ultra. Both use the nforce 2 chipset, and same drivers etc. So is there a point in installing windows again

    Try it without reinstalling. Sometimes you can get away with it - good chance if they are the same chipset.

    If anything bad happens, games don't work which did before, then reinstall

    It's likely your gonna need a re-install as unless it's an identical MB, same make and model, it's probably gonna cause problems..Worth a try I guess but the HAL will probably differ

    whats hal, and does any 1 no a) were to get sata drivers for installation, my only hdd is sata, or b) the infinity has the sata already working without windows installation.

    I dont no if that made sense, someone i hope knows what i mean

    Try it anyway as these two boards have the same chipset. If it don't work you'll need to reinstall windows. Remember to hit F6 for sata driver install on windows set up. You'll also need to put the sata drivers on a floppy.

    Sata drivers should come on a "utilities cd rom" supplied with a new motherboard.

    Otherwise try DFI's website.

    You should always do a format and fresh install with a new motherboard.

    The only exception would be where it is identical in every aspect, including Bios.

    If you didn't want to do that, you can get away with doing a repair after you put in the new motherboard.

    Not sure about Product Activation though if you have it.
