I have an Asus K8N-E motherboard and a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0A. When booting up in Windows XP, the mouse does not work. If I unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in, it works.
I have tried another Microsoft Optical mouse, and reloaded the OS from scratch a couple of times. I haven't installed any mouse drivers either.
Any idea's what could be causing this as it's driving me mad !
Have you tried it in another USB port? And have you checked the BIOS settings for the board?
Does it work in Safe Mode?
I have tried it in another USB port and I have checked the bios settings. It does the same when I boot into Linux as well.
Is there a setting in your BIOS for 'Plug and Play OS'? If so, try setting that to 'Yes' if it's currently set to 'No'. Also, do you have a USB to PS2 mini-DIN adapter for your mouse? It's a bit of a waste of a USB port to plug a mouse into one. I always use the PS2 port for the mouse to free up a USB port. And I assume your Windows XP is fully up-to-date with all the latest service packs and updates?
I've checked all the bios settings and tried various ones. I have a PS2 - USB convertor, but I don't need to use it as there's loads of USB ports on this motherboard. Yes, Windows XP is running the latest service pack and updates.
You still haven't answered my question "Does it work in Safe Mode?"

I'll try the converter although I won't use it as I have free usb ports to use.
