Since 2004 update, PC freezes then reboots shortly after turning on

ince 2004 update, PC freezes then reboots shortly after turning on then generally runs fine for rest of day.

I've checked all drivers are up to date & run memory test on RAM & used Aida64 to stress test system including GPU so don't think hardware is at fault.

Not too sure what I should be looking for in Event viewer but seem to get plenty of instances of Event ID 107 "A pointer device has no information about the monitor it is attached to" and event ID 219 "The driver\driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device {C5A047D8-CB5B-40E9-B9E3-316AB06B5A18}\WirelessKeyboardFilter\9&25691e83&0&01" Don't know if either of these are relevant?

Just looked back at my previous posts and it seems I had a similar problem back in November last year which I presume (can't remember!) resolved itself ...

    System is as follows:

Processor: Intel i7-5930K 6 Core, no Overclocking
    Motherboard: EVGA X99 Micro 2
    Memory: 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666 (4 x 16GB sticks)
    Storage: Samsung 951 M2 SSD + 2 WD Blue 2TB
    Graphics Card: EVGA GTX980Ti SC
    Power Supply: Corsair RMi 750

Still getting a reboot shortly after switching PC on but today spotted a different error in event viewer: Error Event ID 18 WHEA-logger "A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core it's also appeared on two other dates but not every day??

Any idea what I should be looking for?

Really wouldn't know where to begin with this one, that error seems notorious, lots of people with the same problem but no solution, seems random

Oh well, at least I'm not alone! If I knew for certain it wasn't hardware related I'd start afresh & reinstall Windows. I may wait a while to see what happens & then reinstall when I have the time

Might be a drive problem?? Some SSDs do have specific drivers you need to install IIRC,otherwise the generic Windows ones will be installed. It could also be the SSD starting to have issues itself.

Any way of testing the SSD for issues?

You can try chkdsk in Windows. CrystalDiskInfo also has a test.

Samsung also has its own monitoring software:
    https://www.samsung.com/semiconducto...i_down_list_ex

There is also a driver for a few of the drives:

"This driver supports Samsung NVMe SSD 970 PRO, 970 EVO, 970 EVO Plus, 960 PRO, 960 EVO and 950 PRO."

Apparently the 951 is the OEM version of the 950 PRO:
    https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...-sm951.225365/

There is also updated firmware for the 950 PRO. However,as the 951 is an OEM drive,I am not sure if any of it will work(might bring up the wrong flags). It appears you can get updated OEM firmware and drivers, but might need to check relevant forums,to point to where they are available.

There is a long thread about the 951 on Overclock.net:

Some people have had problems with newer Windows updates.

Im also having problems with sm951 and windows 10 1803 april update. Windows 10 boot to desktop used to take about 3-5sec, now its taking anything from 30sec to never. Bootlog, for the times Ive had enough patience to wait, shows windows failing to load some drivers over and over.

    Firmware BXW2500Q

Managed to fix the boot time problem by unplugging all sata devices and leaving just sm951 OS drive connected. Reconnected them back one by one and boot time is back to normal.
u need the driver update ....which Samsung never provide it.....i advice you go back to earlier version of windrows .....me still using 1607 and still great
Has anyone done any benchmarks with the new firmwares that have been released over the years (to OEMs like Lenovo but work on other devices). I don't fancy updating incase it worsens performance and I can't revert.

I have the same problem but mine started a week ago when my corsair 110 cooler stopped working. So I get a error as but a different one. On holiday in a few weeks time will attempt to sort it then.

Re: Since 2004 update, PC freezes then reboots shortly after turning on

So, ran Chkdsk & no problems found.

Installed Samsung magician and although it recognises drive, the diagnostic feature doesn't work for my SSD, although performance benchmark did.

The SSD is indeed using just the Microsoft drivers but has done since I got the PC about 3 years ago and hasn't been a problem until lately.

I believe there is a BIOS update for the motherboard too, but again this was from a few years ago & no problems until recently.

seems weird that the reboots are daily after switching on but very very rarely happen at other times (just the odd one)
