    Angry Spam

Ever since my email address went public after a model kit I finished went on display at a well known site, I've been inundated by spam and 2 particular types of message which are frankly driving me to distraction

    the first is titled
'Re(8)' (athought the number changes from anything from 1-50) and the message just contains adverts for cheap rubbish , the second is normally headed something like 'Increase your manhood' and the sender is Theopolis T Wilderspoon or some daft elongated senders name.

I used to use outlook express but had to change as this had no kind of protection against these messages, so I tried Mozilla Thunderbird which is slightly better but still misses many of these messages as spam and still doesn't block them.

Any other alternatives out there ? As annoying as this problem is I'd rather a free solution and not something that is going to cost a small fortune. I didn't pay for this cr@p so I'd frankly prefer not to pay for a solution

Unfortuantly you'll find most spam protection pretty limited unless you turn it right the way up but then it'll catch normal email anyway. The spammers just work to fill the ermail with so much random rubbish so it looks normal to the filter. The worst we've got here at work now is spam thats actually in Gif format so the text filters can;t even get a look at it, pretty annoying

Thunderbird will pick up more the more you use it as u can set the filters yourself to include subject lines, content by keyword, senders etc etc...

Well over 80% now I think? Read somewhere that on one particular day recently spam made up 97% of all emails. Someone somewhere has got to do something soon.

At work we are struggling to deal with what they call "mail bombing". A kind of non targetted DoS attack.

I remember when I was mail bombed by one of my mates for a joke, I got about 10,000 mails into my account. One quick call to my ISP and they were all deleted

I use Outlook 2003 - the junk email filter on there is kept pretty well up-to-date.

I do check my emails every now and again for mails I recognise, but for the most part, its all spam in there

Oh yeah... and I remember getting mail-bombed once before... there's a few freeware utilities out there that will let you delete mail off a pop3 box before you've downloaded it - bonus

Open... set delete.... message 1 through 99999.... *poof*... gone
