    HDD Configuration

I just bought a new (2nd hand) machine which came with a 500GB Samsung 970 Evo M2 Drive, a 240GB Kingston A400 SSD and a Seagate 2TB HDD. Currently the OS is on the Kingston A400 but I was thinking maybe it would be best on the Samsung 970 which is faster although not sure what I'd do with the A400.

My previous PC I used a 500GB SSD and a 2TB HDD and didn't have any storage issue installing programs on the to SSD and large game downloads onto the HDD.

    Any advice?

You probably won't notice much difference really, I went from SSD to M2 and I can't say I really noticed any difference, save yourself the hassle and just use them as is.

    Re: HDD Configuration

When I moved Windows 10 to my Samsung 970 Evo from a Crucial MX SSD, my load times at least halved. If you’ve got the time for a fresh install etc, the M2 is always likely to be faster than an SSD.

I then use the SSDs for games where the drive speeds aren’t essential.

I agree with the above, save yourself the hassle for now and use it as-is. If you wipe the system in future for some reason, then maybe move the system install to the NVMe drive because why not, but it's unlikely you'd perceive the difference.

    Re: HDD Configuration

In the end I just went ahead and setup on the nvme since the system was effectively blank. Absolutely can't really tell any difference even though it has much higher read and write speeds compared to the Sata SSD

    Re: HDD Configuration

I was surprised myself when I went from SSD to M.2 as the read/write speeds were greatly increased. However that didn't translate to a noticeable experience.
