Having a Gb of ram really helps with alot of the games that are being released as of late, games like Farcry run so much better with the extra ram in the system

Hey, Glad it worked for you!..

Okay well if your Mobo will take PC3200 then that would be the option to go for as you will get the most out of your system, also as Ferral said its definately worth thinking about getting 1GB, as it will definately help your system..

When I went from 512 to 1GB I noticed a difference in the amount of programs I could run simultaneously and how much quicker things would load (like large photos, games, programs in general..)

Yes, get 1gb, tell us what proccessor and board you have and then we can point you in the right direction of ram etc...if you have a good board, they may be a chance of overclocking

2 sticks of 512 seem to be better since a 1GB stick is slower (looser timings).

You can get cheap, decent RAM from http://www.crucial.com/uk

but i guess he wants new ram, so he has room for movement, and for future upgrades?!?!

cheap ram is ok, if you only want to go to 400mhz, but then you can get better ram that will go faster, but it depends on what you want it for.

1gb of 2 x 512mb sticks of ok stuff will cost you less than £80; there have been mixed reviews on the geil value ram, i nearly bought some, but i didnt so i cannot comment.

the 2 sticks of similar ram (try and buy dual channel if you can) as if you dont have dual channel at the moment, it may help you when you upgrade your mobo! or whatever

It will run at whatever you speed your CPU runs at.

Your CPU speed is FSB X multiplier. While the muliplier only applies to the CPU, the FSB is also the speed of the RAM (it doesn;t have to be, but its better to have it set up that way on Athlon XPs). If you have a 2400+, the RAM will be running at something like 133 (PC2100) or 166 (PC2700). Unless you have overclocked, I doubt that your CPU has an FSB of 200, so your RAM probably won't run at PC3200 straight off - you'd need to overclock your CPU to run it at PC3200.
