IBM Thinkpad Network Problems

I cant get a IBM thinkpad laptop with a Intel PRO/100 VE Network adapter. It Just wont work, when a working (yes its been tested) netowork cable is pluged in the network conects and then instantly disconects. Im really lost as to the next step in... any idears?

is your IP address correct for the subnet your on ?
are you using dhcp ?? is the dhcp server listening ?
Is the cable plugged in at the other end ?
Is the network card enabled within windows ?
Is there an IP conflict ?
Is the driver the correct version ?

Something that I've seen cause similar probs is power management. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right-click on the network connection corresponding to your LAN connection and choose Properties. Your adapter will be shown, with a Configure... button next to it. Click that, go to the Power Management tab, and untick the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power tickbox. OK everything, and see if that helps.

Trying things now. Have a linksys Gigabit router thats giving out he ip's and works fine on the other computers. It doesnt the same through my Dual gig lan. And the router. I might try setting the ip's.

Problem solved.Bloody dodgy socket. Have to lift it up all the time to get the network conected. Solved with an old bit of mettal. Used to prop it up. I hate it when things like thiss happen.
