Problem copying large files to HDD

Can anyone help with a problem I'm having: I'm trying to backup a couple of virtual machines with large .vmdk files. Anything over 30GB just won't copy despite the HDD having several TB of free space I get this error:

Any ideas on cause and solution? It seems nonsensical to say "free up space" and then display oodles of free space available in the same message.

Win10, Seagate 14TB EXOS drive (partitioned).

I've had weirdness like this when copying big files in Windows.

Now I use FastCopy to shift big files.

Yep, I use it all the time on Win 10.

Latest version v3.92 (2020/08/02) isn't that old considering the retroness of that website!

On a side note, I love this style of website, they load quickly, the download links area dead easy to find and not an ad in sight! Compare that to modern websites where you need accept 9000 cookies, to scroll through a slideshow of stock images implying how awesome the software is, the download link of which is nested between two ads with "download links" of similar software that will give your PC the clap.

I would do a full disk check on source and destination drives with repair option.
And also make sure SMART hasn't been triggered using the manufacturers diagnostic tools.

Thanks both, I hadn't thought of seatools as the drive is so new, but you're right it probably is worth checking just in case.

Robocopy did cross my mind - I'll give that a go too.

Re: Problem copying large files to HDD

Seatools for windows can't detect half my drives it only finds a USB SSD (Crucial) and a sata SSD (Samsung). Doesn't detect any of the HDD at all. I wonder if it's a driver thing as they're in hotswap caddies?

What type of hotswap caddies are they, internal, external, USB, SAS/SATA?

If they have any sort of RAID capability then yes, it adds another controller layer and you may want to get latest Firmware/Drivers for it.
Internal JBOD caddies are often just a SATA passthrough so no driver necessary beyond the chipset, and the USB JBODs will just use a USB plug n play driver.
