    Weird Wifi Issue

My daughters computer has been doing something odd of late.

Everytime it starts Windows 11 it has no wifi, to get wifi working I have to reinstall the drivers, each and everytime. Its driving me around the twist.

    I have tried

    SFC
    DISM
    Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers.

Not sure what else to try

When the computer starts it will show the bluetooth symbol in the bottom right, in device manager it shows the wifi device and even shows signal strength and speed but there is no icon next to the bluetooth symbol that you normally get when you click on the notification thing next to the clock

Ok, so when there is no icon, does the wifi still work, or is it a case of not working as well as missing icon?

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

I have a spare M.2 wifi card from a laptop, if you're up for opening the laptop and switching it you can have it. It was from a budget Intel based i5 system (5th gen). Not sure of the speed, would assume 300Mbps or something. Let me know if you want it.

I'll try and remember to photograph it tonight

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

Cheers mate, really appreciated. This is a PC however.

And it's a USB stick as well which makes it all the more frustrating as the stupid thing should just work, it has done since I built the computer 6 months ago then all of a sudden this started happening. No recent updates for the OS either

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

    I will look into that.

Its odd as it shows as working in device manager, its quite perplexing

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

I mean you could spend hours resolving it, or just try a different USB stick and see if that addresses the problem, the nano ones are less than a tenner.

Have you tried running the reset network option?

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

Yes, reset network & network troubleshooter.

When you install the drivers again all is fine then on restart it doesn't work

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

Have you disabled the power saving features for the NIC/Cable detection?
BIOS update or anything else firmware related?

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

Is the one you tried from your computer the same model? Either way I would try creating a new user profile and seeing if the same thing occurs.

You could also try different versions of the drivers. SDIO origin makes it easy. https://www.snappy-driver-installer.org/

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

I had an issue with USB Storage a while ago, all working well until randomly months later all recent data on the disk would be corrupt, Windows would also constantly claim the disk was unformatted until I either turned the PC or the external disk unit off & on. Then it would be normal again for a random set of time. At first I thought that the external disk unit was faulty or they used a really cheap chipset inside it.

Turned out to be the "USB Selective Suspend" Setting within Power Options of Control Panel.

Worth a shot if something similar is happening with the Wifi.

In some cases Selective Suspend doesn't exist on certain PC's. It's not for whatever reason on one of my laptops where you would expect to see it as you always want to preserve battery life.

The other method is via "USB Root Hub" within device manager.
Poorly written drivers don't like it when devices turn off.

    Re: Weird Wifi Issue

I will give all that a go. Something strange I forgot to mention is that drive C which is a Samsung NVMe is constantly saying checking for errors on startup even though there are no errors or issues with the drive. Samsung magician says all ok
