Socket A - Cannot Get Heatsink to fit

hi all, my "bundle" from overclockers arrived yesterday and I've just set about putting it together.

I've got an ABIT NF7-S motherboard and an AMD Socket A XP Barton 3200.

All is going well, until its time to fit the heat sink.

This is an AMD Chip and Heatsink not OEM all authentic, but basiclly the heatsink won't fit onto the motherboard I can get the "none locking" end on, but the locking end is about 3 mil too short, and I really can't force it.

Has anyone else had this problem or got any tips / tricks to get this on ?

    Thanks

Get the end of the clips over which are the side that don't bend first. The ones that bend are at 45degrees the ones that don't are flat to the bottom of the heatsink, hard tyo explain. Also make sure you have it alined properly with the raised edge of the socket matching the groove on the heatsink. Once you have the non bending clips on,(make sure they are properly fastened) slowly force the other end over with a screwdriver in the slot on the retention clip(on the heatsink). There are guides for this aswell, here is a site that shows the clips:

hope it goes well, and don't rush it

I got it on in the end, forgot to post. It was was a really tight fit, a bit too tight to be honest, but I got it on in the end.

I allways found those Tailsol coolers a bitch to fit, some heatsinks go on really easilt, others you have to apply some... well force basicly.

this was a little bit of forcing.

I was surprised with it being the AMD official one.

Are yes the mighty AMD heatsink screwdriver dance - try it at your own peril! lol

    Glad you got it sorted.

My Gigabyte Rocket Cooler Pro went on a dream last year, apart from the lack of clearance to work with between Northbridge Cooler & Capacitors.

Tried fitting exact same spec when built last PC for friend and JESUS! Got to the point - I thought the CPU was gonna crack - tight as hell!
