    WMP 9 Taskbar Miniplayer Option

    Hi,

Just started my new job and on the work laptop given to me, we're allowed to listen to music while we work. Theres only WMP9 on there, but for some reason, I cant enable the miniplayer mode, where when minimised, controls appear in the taskbar.

When i right click the taskbar-toobars, there is no option for windows media player, which is how you usually enable it.

I was wondering if any of you fine people know if there is any other way of doing this, through the registry or something? I dont have enough access rights to install WMP10, and its so handy to have the controls there when you work instead of moving backand forth through windows.

    Thanks in advance

I thought there was an option in the settings to allow the miniplayer.

Maybe I'm blind, but I'll double check. I know that there are options regarding the small skinned player, but I swear I've never seen one regarding the miniplayer. Its just weird how the miniplayer toolbar isn't available from the taskbar when right clicking it.

    Any further Clarification?

All i think i did to enable the miniplayer was to load up media player, play a song, minimise media player, rightclick on the taskbar and i can select 'Windows Media Player', under tools... didnt have to enable any other options :S

oh one quick thing.. are you running windows 2000? have a feeling it doesnt work on that OS, but i may be wrong

try right clicking on the start bar... go to toolbars and then media player.

See if that works... does on mine.

Thanks for the tip, but if you read the first post, I state that there is no option from the taskbar when i right click, hence why i need a work around.
    Anyone?

Well, Im running XP pro SP2, on the work laptop. Its wierd as the other guys in my department ( who didnt even know about it) can all do it as i tested it out on theirs. Well at least they're all happy now!

Good point trippledence, could possibly be a access permissions thing - I cant install new programs - i tried to install wmp10 but I can access all other toolbars, so it jsut puzzles me why the option itsn't there!!

Sounds like they lock it all down, not much you can do about that really... Trippledence gets it on the nail though, stay far far away from real!!

I gotta admit though, the one thing i love about real player is the way it can save HOURS of streaming radio and you can flick back and forth through tracks already played - it even has track markers!

But apart from that WMP is ok, i dont think its as bad as everyone makes out to be.

I found quite a good utility for WMP. Lets you hide it as a little icon in the task bar.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...px#traycontrol < very usfull IMO. I also find hiding the media player using it reduces WMP's memory usage.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...bonuspack.aspx To download the pack its part of.

Im pretty sure you can jsut ass the task bar thing. It doesnt require installation to my knowlage jsut run it once. If you cant get the pac il get a link to jsut the bit needed.

    http://www.nurserycottage.plus.com/webstore/Filebank/
If you down load the file from there, mpxptray.exe run it once and the icon should apear. Tadar!

Yeah, I may have to resort to letting one of the technicians look at it but there aren't many of them, and we're well busy at the mo at work that its a little bit embarrasing to ask "Hey can you sort out MEdia Player so i can listen to music...". I'm sure they'd see it as VERY low priority in the whole scheme of things!!!

Cheers Tripple!!, will try that link out later and hope that works!!

    Thanks again
