    Counter Strike Source and HL2

    Hi,

A strange problem, but one i have heard about many a time.

I used to have a 6800le, and the game would crash randomly, sometimes after 10 mins other times after an hour.

I got fed up and decided to change my graphics card to sort out the problem, the graphics card that the game (HL2 and cs : source) was designed around.

I now have a 9800pro and the game will freeze and i will hear nasty scratching / screetching noises from each of my speakers, and i have to turn it of and then turn it back on, pressing restart will not work!

I used driver cleaner etc, and uninstalled drivers as per instructions. I could not understand why this would do this on both setups, especially as i have just recently reinstalled everything, i.e. because of new hard drives. The system setup is as per my sig, and i think i am using cat 5.3 drivers (the newest but one).

Everything else is up to date, and whilst running CS and HL2, i run asus probe, zonealarm, norton and m$ antispyware. I use AOL as my isp but i cannot sort out the problem, please help me!

Have you got a SoundBlaster card? The Steam online help suggests that moving it to a different slot can stop the PC from hanging with the sound looping.
I had the problem a lot. What helped in my case was changing the network card driver! I only get the problem while playing online, less often now, but both my machines still do it occasionally.
