EZ flash

I need to flash the BIOS on an ASUS A8V Deluxe to a newer version the older BIOS on the board doesn't work with the newer CPU. (quite common for ASUS from what I've heard, which I wasn't aware of when I got it)

I've got the new version, placed it in the floppy drive, however when I press ALT+F2 when it's starting up, it does nothing and the floppy won't load. It doesn't even try to kick the drive in. It then just repeats the annoying POST message.

This board is really giving me the you know what's, but I want to try all options before maybe getting it checked out, or replacing it with a different brand.

I'd appreciate as many suggestions as possible.

Ok firstly download the zip'd bin file http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...11.zip~zaqwedc

Next download the AFUDOS Update util http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...11.zip~zaqwedc

Create a boot floppy in windows, format and make sure create MS-Dos boot disk is checked.

Copy your unzipped bios image to the floppy as well as the unzipped AFUDos util.

Change boot order in bios to removable first

Boot the floppy.

Type afudos /ia8v1011.ami

Problem is, the computer won't get past POST. So I can't boot from a disk, and I would have to use EZ flash, however it won't work.

Well the AFUDOS util is the one thats listed on the asus website for flashing the bios, however if you can; get past post then it's a problem. Does your board have vocal error output, i.e plug your speakers in and post and it should tell you whats wrong?

Is this a winchester CPU & an older BIOS? Try placing a single stick of RAM in slot 1 and keep hitting F8 as it starts up to activate the flash utility. If that doesn't work you need to borrow an older A64 to upgrade the BIOS.

Is it possible to change the BIOS chips?

Yep it is possible to change the Bios chips if they get messed up, although you may even find your board has a bios recovery function built in, my Asus A8N-Sli machine does, this guy is really good for new chips http://www.motherboard-biosflash.co.uk/1115.html
