Dell Pc Problem
Recently downgraded a PC from a 2.4Ghz Prescott, 800 bus to a 1.7Ghz celeron, 400bus
Now, when I turn it on theres no post screen and it doesnt work, yet, when I replace the 2.4Ghz CPU it posts fine... even thought the FSB is half, it should be backwards compatible right? Is my CPU duff? Or are dells just dodgy, as most people with a dell wont be upgrading, let alone downgrading

Perhaps the bios is locked to 200Mhz - and wont let you drop to 100Mhz?

i wouldnt have thought that it would support a celly 1.7 as that runs at a diff voltage (1.75 irc) ,much higher than the northwoods and prescotts do, that is assuming tho that it is an old desktop celly and not a mobile one?

Tis a desktop celly, do you think a 533 chip would work? (NW?)

yep any northwood core should work , afaik all the desktop celly's 2Ghz and above are northwoods
