Hi just brought a new stick of Elixir 512 DDR pc3200 SDRAM to add to my 2x 256 DDR333 PC2700. I have not installed it yet as i am looking for a prog that will show what increase results i get before and after! Is it called Memtest if so any ideas in what i should do?

Just look on download.com for benchmarking tools. I thought Memtest was for purely checking the RAM.
....Not too sure! I just want to see if the new stick has a big increase being my format is 2x256 & 1x512 which is not the recommended format as there meant to run better in pairs!
I think SiSoft Sandra will be your best bet. It has a good memory benchmark and is free. Memtest checks the memory to see if it's working, and AFAIK doesn't benchmark it.
If you want to see if it makes an improvement in performance then I propose that you pop along and download SANDRA from www.download.com
Run the memory benchmark module and save the results to your system without the new memory in and then install the new memory and re-run the test again and you can then compare the results and import the previous results for easy comparision.

plus its rated newer than your old memory, so unless your old stuff will clock up to PC3200 speeds your old stuff will only run at PC2700 speeds - but sandra will tell you that :)
Thanks for that info! But i couldnt wait i just put it in and it seems ok but no 'Bang for bucks' as i expected! :(
I think i may buy another stick (pc3200) and sell the 2x 256, as spud was saying my new (pc3200) will only run at the old pc2700! Or is it really worth it will it make that much difference? :confused:

It will make a difference in apps that require more RAM.

As it goes i think i'll leave it ! I did say ' no bang for bucks'! I was wrong! I lowered my Virtual Mem and everything is so much faster Games especially! £21 spent and its like a new PC! :rockon:
