    cpu question

    when looking at s 939 processors whats the diference between a 90nm (venice) and a 130 nm (clawhammer) apart for the price?

    Venice are 90nm SOI and also have SSE3 side encodings and an improved memory controller over the Clawhammer.

    The part below was taken from the AMD technical Forum ;

    Here's the differences between 939-pin Desktop Athlon 64 cores in a nutshell:

    512KB L2-cache parts:
    - Newcastle (Model F, rev. DH7-CG): 130nm SOI manufacturing process, 512KB L2-cache, 89W TDP up to a 2.4GHz clockspeed.

    - Winchester (Model 1F, rev. DH8-D0): 90nm SOI manufacturing process, 512KB L2-cache, 67W TDP up to a 2.2GHz clockspeed.

    - Venice (Model 2F, rev. DH8-E3): 90nm SOI manufacturing process, 512KB L2-cache, 67W TDP up to a 2.2GHz clockspeed, 89W TDP up to a 2.4GHz clockspeed, SSE3-support.

    1MB L2-cache parts:
    - Clawhammer (Model 7, rev. SH7-CG): 130nm SOI manufacturing process, 1MB L2-cache, 89W TDP up to a 2.4GHz clockspeed, 104W TDP at 2.6GHz.

    - San Diego (Model 27, rev. SH8-E4): 90nm SOI manufacturing process, 1MB L2-cache, 89W TDP up to a 2.6GHz clockspeed, SSE3-support.

    cheers, i'll probably go for a venice 3500+ then , its a shame really, clawhammer sounds so much cooler
