    3GB DDR, only 2GB recognised

    Hello everyone,

I've got an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and up until now have had 1GB 3200 RAM. I've just bought another 2GB (2 x 1GB) 3200 RAM to add to my system, but for some reason it's only recognising 2GB - that's both in Windows and in the BIOS. I can't find out how to arrange the RAM for it to work, although I've seen a few other people who have got 3GB on A8N mobos that work. Anything I need to do in the BIOS to get that last GB working?

    Thanks in advance.

You don't say what 'os 'your using. I read somewhere recently that vista could utilise 4 meg but xp could only utilise either 2 or 2 1/2.

Yeah sorry. I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 - which can support up to 8GB? The upgrade to this OS is the main reason I chose to upgrade my RAM. This doesn't really matter, though, because it will only recognise 2GB in the BIOS - way before Windows even attempts to boot.

Have you had a go with each stick in turn (running with just one at a time) to check that it all works ok ?

Well my first stick has been working for 2 years so that's fine. At the moment I only have the 2 new sticks in and it's running fine with both of those so there's no problem with any of them.
