Installing from a different DVD drive

    Hi all,

Yesterday my DVD ROM drive packed-up. At least, it makes noises, but refuses to read any disks. I've taken it apart and cleaned it to no avail. It makes some unpleasant noises.

Anyway, I need to re-install BF2...but I can't....except that I have a DVD drive in my laptop. Both PC and laptop are running Windows XP Pro, and are connected on my LAN.

Is there any way I can install BF2 from the DVD drive in my laptop, and for BF2 to recognise the drive in my laptop as being the original installation location when it boots up? Is it simply a matter of sharing the DVD drive across the LAN, and it will work?

    TIA

    Mut.

I've done this a few times and for the most part it works. Some copy protection systems freak out though, its worth a shot anyway.

    Ok, so that doesn't work.
It installs fine, but you can't run it.

Whenever I do run it, I'm asked to insert the DVD...

What about virtual disks, image-mounting apps like Alcohol? Do they work?

I've had success with Daemon tools although these days many Apps (particularly games) won't run if Daemon Tools is present (anti-piracy). However if after mounting the image you uninstal Daemon tools, this usually prevents such errors. IME

and before anyone asks I used it to mount an image of Propellerheads Rebirth which is now given away free from http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ and got fed up with putting the CD in the drive everytime I wanted to use it.

I dont think BF2 works with daemon tools if I remember rightly, they may have got round it with a new version though.
