new build won't post. no beeps and nothing on screen

hi all,
i have just started building a new system.

it consists of an A8N-Sli motherboard, a athlon 3000 winchester CPU and a MSI 256MB Nvidia 6600 graphics card, memory is is a DDR 512MB 3200 ocz module.

i have put the motherbord in the case, put the graphics card, memory and cpu in, attached keyboard and attempted to start it up with no joy.

the fans all come on, but nothing appears on screen, nor are there any beeps.

any pointers would be most welcome ...

Sounds daft but I had this and all I forgot to do was connect the 4 pin power supply for the cpu...it has its own, a mere oversight but the systems a dead duck with no cpu power....just a thought.

not too sure what 4 pin power supply your referring to ?

hey, success, you were right on the money, i thought that connection was only for P4 ... i'm one happy puppy :-) thanks for the help ... cheers kev

I've done the same with this board before (also got A8N SLI). The 4pin +12V connector basically powers the CPU, hence the lack of bootage

i guess i should have realised, if it was just for a P4 why have it on an athlon board ??? my head was not in gear :-) all working great now though so now i have to see what the puppy can do ... FarCry here i come :-)
