    Help with Epson R300 printer

I'm in desperate need of help here.
I bought an Epson R300 usb printer about a year ago, and it worked perfectly.
Then, I had a catastrophic computer crash, which necessitated a hard disk reformat, and re-install of Windows 98SE.
Since then I've been unable to make my printer work with my computer.
From this fresh install of Win98SE, re-install of the Epson software, I can't get the computer to see the printer.
    Any ideas?

First try a different usb cable, and as soon as you can try it on another pc.

Also have you got another usb device you can try just t make sure a - your ports are working, b the PNP serivce is running..Actaully thinking back, don;t you need to install a specific driver for USB on 98?

    Try this link..

Try disconnecting the power cable from the printer for a few seconds then reconnect, your computer should now see the printer

    Thanks for the replies.
I'm slowly working through your suggestions (getting a second Win98SE computer to test against is the hardest :-) )

    The r300 is a usb2 printer.

usb1 support is flaky with it.

have you installed the correct mobo drivers for the usb support ?

make sure you are doing it in the right order which is have printer connected but turned OFF ,run driver installation wait till it says looking for printer then turn it on

BUT also make sure that you have uninstalled any epson software that may be left over from previous installation attempts by looking in the add remove programs bit before you try the above

Same cable - same printer - connected to Windows 98 laptop (USB 1 - it's a PRETTY OLD laptop) - plugged in printer - asked for (already installed drivers) works perfectly!
Already did the uninstall crap - including going through the Registry to delete any references to "Epson" - still my Win98SE desktop won't see the printer. Googled and found 3 other people with the same problem - no solutions though.
BTW, I paid for a WORKING OS (for the ****** that said "Pay Bill Gates another $150 and get WinXP" - ermmm... NO)
