Noticed Micro Direct selling a Sony Quad Layer DVDRW drive. I wasn't aware such things existed! Have I missed out on something here? I wasn't aware Quad layer existed...

Yeah, just another way of saying double sided dual layer I believe.

But does that mean it has lasers on both sides? If not, could someone flipping the disc over in a normal DL drive have exactly the same effect?

It's only MD who call it a quad layer drive. A mistake, I suspect.

It's "double dual layer" which means it'll write either dual layer format. Some schnoid at MicroDirect must have give that a bit of marketing spin and multiplied double by dual.
