wireless netork... HELP!!

hi, i have a belkin wirless router/modem in 1 room, and a belkin wireless pci card in a pc in another room. They are both 54mbps. When i first turno the computer on all is fine, then after say an hour, it will loose the connection. so I rescan for the network and it dosent find it. Once I restart the pc its all fine again, for another hour. A majority of the time I get a 84% signal strength, so that cant be the problem and I have run out of the few ideas i had. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you using any encryption? I've had all sorts of trouble with WPA recently, and had to back down onto WEP encryption.

I used to have this problem with similar equipment (Belkin stuff). For us it came down literally to the weather and how close the PCs were- some days it would work fine, but on others it was a case of literally moving the computers closer together. Somehow it cleared itself up, though :/

Try checking the channels on which your hardware is set...telephones and other electronic equipment can cause massive interference as well...

I had the same problem with my recently purchased Belkin 125G High Speed Mode modem router and Belkin 125G High Speed Mode PCI card. Using turbo mode (in which you are supposed to get an effective speed of 125Mbs) I could hardly get a connection. In the end I went back to using the onboard 54G WiFi card built into my motherboard and all was well.

I am using WEP 128-bit encryption so that may have something to do with it. But I found the PCI card to be the culprit in my situation. Perhaps you've got another network card lying around that you could try to see where the problem lies?

thnx for all your help, still having problems tho, I am going to get another pci card and see if that solves the problem.
Oh and i am using a 64-bit WEP encryption, i didnt see the need for any more than that because the ammount of people in my area that can use a computer is limited.

Try putting it in your attic or the highest point in your house that you can and see if that works.

I had a situation like that when I first set up my wireless network. I would get nearly full signal on all the computers, then after a while it just dropped and would eventually disconnect.
Did a search and found advice that said to place the router in the highest possible place, so it's now in my room in the attic and works great all the time.
