    Freezing whilst playing games

Im finding that when playing games the pc will completely freeze up. The sound will stutter (Repeat itseld over and over every few milliseconds) and the graphics will freeze

I've had this when playing Farcry, NFSU2, Battlefield 2 Demo.

I did have the CPU and GPU overclocked, just removed the GPU overclock and turned back the CPU overclock.

    Hardware is as follows:

Silverstone TJ-04 with stock case fan at 7V
P4 2.26Ghz at stock voltage with gigabyte's intelligent overclock at turbo setting (About 30C idle, 50C load)
Thermalright XP120 fanless, ducted to rear case fan
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB default settings (About 70C load)
    1GB Crucial RAM
    Gigabyte GA 8IPE Pro-G
    300W SilentX PSU

I'm pretty sure its not overheating issues and pretty sure its not the intelligent overclock because it was running stable at 2.73Ghz stock voltage.

Could it be the PSU thats not providing enough power?

    Thanks
    Ben

I seem to be getting probs with BF2, its a freeze for a couple of seconds sometimes with a looped sound, then it carries on. Think it might be sound card related, have tried lowering the hardware acceleration in dxnfig, no joy. Was thinking about a sound card upgrade, might go the audigy route. Have you checked for soundcard updates? not many people think they can cause problems, but I have had several problems over the years, mostly sorted when an update comes out.

I tried getting a driver update from the creative website this morning, all it said was original drivers not found. I know they're installed and i know i downloaded the correct update :S

I never used to get these problems, might have been since overclocking but not quite sure

Will put the CPU back to stock and have a bit of farcry fun online now

Doesn't always do it though so it doesn't guarentee its an overclock problem

Well, played some Farcry with no overclock on either CPU or GPU and it froze. Don't know what the temperatures got upto but this system is no where near the thermal limits of the hardware.

Never used to freeze so somethings changed. Got a new case/mobo/heatsink a few months back but cooling is similar to what it was before.

Does it sound like an overheating problem or a power supply problem? I know the voltages on the SilentX aren't that good, speedfan is showing this:

    Ben

Note that there is a fan connected, just not showing the speed of it
