new laptop w/ cpu error?
hi, a few days ago i bought a "crossfire II AMD64 3200" laptop from novatech,
here are the specs:
# AMD Athlon 64 3200 Processor
# 1024MB PC3200 400MHz DDR
# 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Graphics
# 60 gig HDD
# DVD Burner etc etc
the problem is that system properties and all other diagnostic utilities i have run show that the cpus core speed is around 800mhz, here is a screenshot of the cpu-z readout
cpu-z screenshot
at first i rang novatech tech support and the bloke said that it is correct, im still not sure?
i checked the bios but there were no overclocking settings or anything like that.
any advice is greatly appriciated, neil

Is that running off mains or battery? If the latter that probably is correct; if not, then it seems like the power management settings might be screwed up, or it's throttling to cope with excessive temps. Have a look at http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...~89440,00.html ?

it's fine :) if things like cool and quite are enabled, then basically the cpu multi is clocked down to save power and with desktop work the extra mhz is rarely needed, although whenever a cpu intensive task does arise the cpu is multiplyer is clocked up to higher multiplyer
when the multi is at 4 it's 4x200 = 800mhz...
and when it's at stock multi, 10x200=2000mhz ;)
it's working fine, play a game and keep cpu'z open or do a cpu intensive task and watch the multi quickly raise :)

Yeah, thats the way it should be running. If you aren't doing anything it will lower the multiplier and voltage. It's how they get more than 20 minutes of battery life.

ok thanks, i will give it a go when i get home from work :)
in response to nichomach it is running off the mains
