Question Which PC? Help for brownie points etc ty \o/

    Hey guys
I've been living with my 1.6 512mb computer for years, saving up for a pc.
(I even manage to play cs:s with some juicy 40 fps - drops to 10 in places). But anyway enough of feeling sorry for myself. Wondering with my rough 1000 squid guideline which pc to get. List of specs would be wubbly

Those all look like good parts - Athlon 64s, nForce 4, Seagate drives, etc. I would personally choose an ATi X800XL rather than a 6800GT, but that's more my personal preference. Do you not want to buy a TFT rather than a CRT?

There have been numerous other threads on this sort of thing which might be of interest to you e.g. http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=52046

I just prefer to have ATi cards - I find the drivers better.

Looks like a good rig to me!
    Is 120Gb enough for you?
Do you need more/better cooling? (~will you overclock)
Is one Optical Drive Ok? (~will you be copying disks)
    No Keyboard/Mouse/OS.

And don't want to be rude, but found it hard to read that. Can you remove stuff like product codes and any excess information? Thanks.

I have a keyboard mouse and os
I also have a 120gb hd atm and also acdrw drive n a floppy i can transfer

I'll be overclocking a little. Not to he extreme though. I was told the mem was extremely crap to overclock. Also i didn't really spend that much time looking at cases. Any alternative sugestions? :>

The memory might only clock by 10% but thats no big deal, just run it on a divider.

Personally I'd go for an Enermax PSU, but Tagan are still decent.

Yup, Athlon 64s don't mind the memory not being in sync with the processors. Having faster RAM doesn't make that much of a difference (to my knowledge).

As for case, I like the Beanteach Igloos (I got mine from Komplett). They're aluminium, well made and have decent cooling, and are very cheap for the quality.

Those are literally perfect parts in my opinion. Tagan PSU's are high standards, and the Cooler Master Centurian and Stacker are well designed cases. I would stick with that, and also good move on the 2gb.

i'd put an extra £20 in and double the size of that hdd myself (you'll always fill it up no matter how big it is). particulalry if you're planning to keep it a few years.

scan is good now they have free pnp

I usually buy from www.scan.co.uk, www.ebuyer.co.uk, www.eclipsecomputers.com, and check www.froogle.com (organise by price, and put in a reasonable minimum price, to eliminate smaller products associated with it).

Also raid the bargain forum here to see if you can spot any good deals.

Also I have found that http://www.cocc.co.uk/ do REALLY good prices, such as their Audigy 2 ZS and MX1000. I found shipping cheap as chips too, although ultimately you can't beat Scans free delivery!
