pc won't boot into windows properly

Just updated a few drivers and also installed a creative wireless music player.
Also installed new version of zonealarm.
Rebooted and now windows will not boot properly. It gets to the starting up page and plays the start up sound. It then shows me my desktop background and mouse pointer. Then it seems to freeze. No start menu or anything else.
    Boots ok in safe mode.
Tried using system restore without success.

Help, as this is annoying me!
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Have you tried Last know good Configuration?

I would boot into safe mode and uninstall all the drivers you updated and see if that fixes the problem. Then install them one at a time to see if a particular one is faulty

I think it's your creative music player software. Exactly the same thing happened to me the last time I updated the creative media software (I have a zen). Ended up doing a fresh installation which is probably not what you want to hear.

had this problem on someone elses comp. turned out to be a virus.

to urn ur comp in "real mode" for the time being press ctrl+alt+del on startup and start a new process. type explorer.exe and u shd load fine. i know this is only a temp fix but give it a go.

Did a fresh install in the end as this was the only way it worked. Might have been because I installed too many updates(zonealarm, hardware drivers etc) at same time without rebooting in-between. Now freeing up space with progs that no longer work and re-installing progs.

Tell you what, you sometimes don't realise how much rubbish and programs you don't use build up on your hd.

I'm glad you got it sorted. Imho Creative software = rubbish, Zone Alarm = Rubbish.

Like Aol and NTL I'll never have anything to do with these companies ever again and always look for alternatives. Sygate Personal Firewall is a good (free) alternative
