Bought a cheap stick of DDR 1GB off fleabay (Kill me if you want to) a few weeks back.
Just realised (didn't check originally) that its only reading as 512MB, so I ran CPU-Z 1.30 and got this
Do I have any right to get it returned and replaced?

Yes, but if the seller knew about it you might be in something of a sticky situation.
what does the bios start up screen say the memory size is?
Can't tell, it goes too fast and I can't pause the POST.Originally Posted by da_ging

If you have win xp the system properties will tell you the ram size , you could also download memtest http://www.memtest.org, as cpu-z can be wrong
XP says its only 1.5GB too

Theres your issue right there. youshould have said you were going for 2 gigs
XP can only address around 1.5gigs cos it needs space for PCI addressing and such, you need XP64.
Dangnabit.
I'll boot into X64 in a mo.

It can't be the problem, I ran 3.0GB on WinXP32 fine, with the /PAE switch you can run 4G on XP32.Originally Posted by Dougal
You really should check your BIOS. If it reads 1G then its 1G. Try re-sit your ram. Bad contact could make it run at half the rated capacity (I had experienced this).
The easiest way to try is to pull out all your other sticks and only leave this 1G(512?) stick in. If it still read 512 then its dodgy

I have pulled all the sticks out apart from the 1GB, only reads 512MB in Windows.
There's no way to check it in BIOS on the K8V SE Deluxe and I can't see a memory check option. Will run Memtest in a bit

That does indeed sound like a dodgey stick then. Id try and return it if i were you. Does it read 1Gb on the sticker on the ram? Or deos it not have one?
The sticker says 1024MB (1GB I do believe) have emailed the guy last night and it does say 30 day warranty, purchased on the 27th July. So He'd better get back to me

Hmmm sounds dodgy. What did memtest show up?
If you want to check the POST screen to see how much it shows there try hitting PAUSE/BREAK if its going too fast...
memtest shows it as "1533MB" which is 3MB less then 1.5GB
