    Computer won't boot anymore

Hi, I checked out this site for a while and saw, that in this board are some really good people that could help me with my problem, I'm thankful for every help you can give me...

So, my PC was running pretty well all the time, then I unplugged him and 1 week later, when I wanted to start it again, the computer just stayed dead...

No LED on the Mobo, no signal on the monitor, nothing, only the fans are working and I heard a short sound from the hdd

I unplugged the graphicscard, which already didn't change anything at all...
I changed the RAM, but the computer did nothing...
I unplugged cd-rom-drives, and my 2 harddisks, no change...
I cleared CMOS, nothing happenend, I took the BIOS-Battery out for 10 minutes, already, no changes...

    So what can that be?
Dead PSU or even a dead MoBo?
    Hope you guys know something

PSU is powering the fans, so its not dead (but don't rule it out as faulty)

unplug the HD's and any extra cards you have, and mouse and keyboard. try again. but no lights on the motherboard - i would start by looking at the motherboard/cpu. did you have the computer/psu unplugged when you tried to clear the CMOS?

    Yeah, I plugged it out...
I already put the cpu out, started the pc, and put it in afterwards again...

I unplugged all the USB-Controllers, all peripherical units and so on... you think it could be a dead motherboard?

i actually had a similar situation recently - i opened up the PSU and checked the fuse, it was ok. I did the highly technical test of listening for electric current - which there was some. Basically the PSU appeared to be working but i tried a different one and hey presto, working. Put a mates PSU in it (or a spare one) along with the CPU, RAM, and GFX card. If it boots and you can see the bios doing it's post test, its your PSU. If it doesnt check all the bits are seated correctly, and try again. Once you are sure all bits are in right and it still doesnt work - new mobo time (unless it is beeping at you).

Sounds like a dead mobo, what make/model is it. Not an Epox is it......
Check for blown/bulging capacitors on the board. Sure sign.

No, there are no blown capacitors...
Right now I'm at work, so i will post the exact model of my mobo later...
I will take a PSU from work home today, maybe it's only the PSU, would already be better than a dead mobo

    Okay, back again....
changing the PSU caused no changes...
What would be, if the processor would be dead? Would there be beep-codes?

IF the board itself doesn't light anything up and u've tried a new PSU, basicly u need a new one.

I just saw that there is one led on the mobo lighting up and the fans are turning...

let's see if I can get a mobo from a friend for testing
