    9800 pro installation problems

Im trying to install a Radeon 9800 pro on an Asus A7v8x-mx se but it isent working. I need to find the gart driver i think but dont know where to get it. Any ideas? When i try and install the catalyst drivers im told i need to install a basic vga driver but i cant seem to do it. Ive tried installing the via 4 in 1 and that hasent worked and im not sure what to do next and its driving me round the bend mad: I need to get this fixed asap as well

    cheers

Download the ATI drivers from Ati's website.

Boot up (not in safe mode), and go into add/remove programs, remove everything in there to do with ATI, or any previous video card drivers, EVERYTHING.

Then reboot, wait for windows to complain about missing drivers etc, then install the Ati drivers you downloaded, reboot again.

That should be it, make sure you've connected the extra power lead (my 9800 pro stops the whole computer working anyway if it's not plugged in).

All the hardware is plugged in to correctly no probs there

The thing is i cant even install the catalyst drivers properly the installation errors and it says u need to install a basic vga driver. From what i can gather this should be a chip set driver so I install the via 4-1 off the cd it then detects the driver it needs but when it goes to copy it over it says data is invalid. I think the driver cache on the machine is screwed so im gunna try formatting and re installing xp on it tomos hopefully it will work with a clean install cause its clearly not happy with something somewhere along the line and ive ran out of ideas ive tried all the drivers i can and none work

Ive had that happen to me too. I forgot what I did , probably reinstall like u say, but its not a one off or anything. I think the best bet is to follow the recommended proceedure to remove previous ati drivers first. I also recommend "driver cleaner" from www.drivenheaven.com
