    ata and sata hard drive question?

    i have currently got an ata hard drive, but have just purchased an sata as i hear they are the future, i dont really know much about them....they dont use ide cable, so thats it, myquestion is will they run in the same pc together, i have sata on my mobo, can i install it to run with my ata hd, and if i can, what about master and slave settings? i have windows xp!

    You can use both ATA and SATA in the same machine without any problems. (Obvisously you have to have a MOBO with SATA)

    With SATA there is no master and slave configuration as each device has it's own channel. With SATA just plug it in and windows will detect it without an problems.

    One point to be aware of is if you're installing windows on your new SATA drive, make sure you have a floppy with the SATA drivers on & load when prompted (hit F6 to load additional drivers), during the windows install.
    And remember to re-set the boot priority in the BIOS
