[HARD DISK] Big trouble!
Hi guys, i have a very big problem with my IMB Deskstar DTLA-307045.
I can't use the disk like a boot disk or like a secondary disk, because it seems to have a mechanical trouble. I've tried to read the datas with two different PC, but with no success.
When i turn on the PC, i hear the tipical sound of the disk head starting to read, but it can't go forward so, after some some attempts, the disk stops its activity.
Please tell me if i can try to use some software or if i must take my disk to a tech center.

Try the old freezer trick and then connect it as a secondary drive and if you are lucky it may work long enough to enable you to get your data off it. If that does not work you can send it to specialist data recovery centre (costly).
Good luck

freezer trick? Never heard of that one - what's the risk?
-
No risk just put hard drive in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for a couple of hours.
Take it out, connect and see if the cold has freed up any jammed parts.
It worked once for me on a IBM deathstar.

Risk is that your disk won't work - oh - but it doesn't anyway! Do put it in a plastic bag (in an anti-static bag first) and then leave it in tyhe frezer for about 12 hours or so. No gurantees but you won't be any worse off.

make sure the bag is very well sealed against moisture ingress too :)
Might last long enough to get the data off.

Does it sound like "whirr..clunk.. whirr.. clunk"?
I had two deathstars exit in the same way, try the freezer trick but accept that you've probably lost everything. When you get a replacement (RMA if it's within warranty) you will appreciate a regular backup much more! I lost loads of stuff both times, but much less the second time because I didn't put my trust in just one place.
