Unhappy It wont boot - again - ANTEC power supply

    Hello All,

I'm adding a new motherboard to a previous thread about this problem. Mine is an EPOX 8n-PAJ. Brand new. Antec Sonata 2 with 450w PSU, Sempron 2.8 and Zalman 7000 alcu cooler.

It won't boot even outside the case with the cooler/fan disconnected. How bare a board can you get! The only connections are the 2 power supply leads and the power switch. Connecting the blue/black fan sensor feedback cable to the PSU makes no difference.

By the way, the latest Zalman cooler has a a hard plastic backplate, so there's no shorting.

I've put the entire assembly into another standard ATX case with only a 300w PSU and it boots first time. I'm beginning to suspect it's not a BIOS update that is required, but simply to make changes to the bios settings that cover PC fan & cpu settings. Any ideas folks?

    Wont-boot - ANTEC

    Hello Danishwonder,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes the power supply seems fine. When the board was fully set up, all the fans came on. CPU,chipset video card and case fan. The digital readout on the motherboard says "FF", but goes no further.

When I placed the board in the old plain case it starts booting from "FF" and then quickly cycles through many different numbers. The motherboard handbook suggests the "FF" code means either "attempted boot" or "the bios chip should be re-inserted".

When booting in the old case, the Post screens come up. The CPU (a Sempron 2800, 64bit) is recognised as one of the Hammer series from AMD, but is not named. Now that's a Bios update issue, but it's not critical to booting up.

    Cheers, Alcro
