System crashing with Radeon 9550 256mb...

Hey guys im new here but im getting very agrevated with my situation.

    I just recently purchased a Stealth Radeon 9550 256mb, so I can play BF2.
But now my system crashes as soon as I attempt to start playing, not only does it crash with BF2 but also with HL2. I tried everything I can think of. I deleted all existing drivers, tried to change my agp from 8x to 4x, and that just ended up worse I had to reformate and reinstall everything. After all that I thried playing BF2 and still same problem.

    My system is a:
    HP AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.2gigs
    512mb of ram
    and running Windows XP.

Im in a bad way right now please help me out before I give up and spend my money on a Geforce.

hmm I used to get that problem occasionally with mine, but it seemed to stop when I downloaded new Mobo drivers. Might help you.

It would be the most sensible thing to do:-
    1) Check BIOS for motherboard is up to date.
    2) Check drivers for motherboard are up to date.
    3) Check drivers for graphics card are up to date.
    4) Check patches for games are up to date.

Do you get a BSOD? If so, what's the error message?
Core i7 920, Asus P6T, 3x2 1333 DDR3, Vista x64, Ageing 8800GT (Next upgrade!), Adaptec 1430SA with 4x500 gig HD (2x RAID 0 and 2x RAID 1), Blu Ray rewriter, 1TB HD for data, housed in Cooler Master ATCS 840 awaiting water cooling with Corsair HX1000 PSU, Microsoft Habu and Reclusa, 22" and 17" TFT.
