    mobo and processor upgrade

I have a pentium 3 processor on a micro atx motherboard 25x25cm (about).

Can I replace these with the bundle shown in the link below?

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?MBB-SP726U

Do you get instructions on where to plug in the hard drive, cd roms, power switch etc?

My windows came with the HP pc, I am thinking this may not work on the new mobo and processor am I correct? Would I have to obtain a new windows?

    Thanks for all your help.
    This is a great site.

In general, yes, you can just swap over the motherboard. However you say your computer is an HP - now some big name PC manufacturers use custom cases etc, which mean that it's easier for them to build it, but harder for you to upgrade.

I'd do a google search on the model number of the machine to see if upgrading is likely to be a problem, or post it here and see if anyone else knows anything about it. Alternatively, phone Novatech and ask their advice - they may well be able to help.

As for instructions for connecting it up, you should get a motherboard manual which will explain it all (usually in quite technical detail, but if you go through it carefully, it tends to all make sense).

You are right in being cautious about your copy of Windows - I do know that some manufacturers tie the copy of Windows to their hardware somehow (maybe it looks at the BIOS?). I don't know if HP does this.

Possibly , it would depend if you have a compatable power supply.
If you have a widows installation CD and valid serial number you would be able to transfer it otherwise no.

Ths system is a HP Pavillion 7929 original windows ME which I upgraded to XP via an upgrade voucher which came with the system therefore my XP is an upgrade from ME version. The ME is on the system restore discs. I have formatted the PC several times and reloaded XP without the system restore discs being used without problem.

No, a 300W+ modern supply is required. If you can afford it a new case and power supply would be adviseable.
